Essen und Trinken

Bread Exchange in the April issue of the German food Magazine “Essen und Trinken”.

Thank you for your kind words!

“What is a Bread worth” is a very interesting topic, and I am glad you are bringing it up. To pay a fair price is no proof of quality but who are we kidding when we think that low price on food can ever be a good deal?  Even if you believe in egoism as our natural behavior it isn’t – we are build on what we choose to put in our mouth and a strong body is our most important asset.

It is so simple.

When we choose not to pay a fair price for food we can be sure that there is something we are not paying for. Ether it is the work craft of the people that produce the food, or it is the ingredients used, or the time spend to achieve a healthy produced bread, or it is the state of the work space. We are the main looser. Still the market shows us that low price is what people want.  1-2 euro/bread is simply not a fair price. But in the end, we all know that, one does not need a business degree to see that.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this!

It might seem nerdy to reduce the topic to bread, of course it is applicable to any food production. It is just that Bread is like a historic metaphor for all foods. And when we are screwing our daily bread we can be sure that the rest is not really alright ether.

And that is one of the reasons why I started the Bread Exchange project in the first place.

Berlin, as soon as I am back home this weekend I will bake for you!

I think it’s crazy, that people (escpecially “we Germans”) are always looking for some cheap food offers. I read a text in the greenpeace magazine and it said, that Germans are buying more expensive oil for their cars than for their kitchen. That’s just so weird!

Yes I absolutely agree with you Sonja. I’m doing a training to become Ayurveda Heathly Consultant. And nutrition is one of the main topics together with its preparation and the choice of the best food for oneself. I believe that only best ingredients combined with love during preparation (and time) is best.

Bread is one of the simplest but most essential foods ins our life! Malin, in my opinion you honor the bread by making it the way you do and giving it to people, in the very crazy and a thought-provoking way! Just so great!

I wish I could exchange something with you for the taste of your bread, but I live rather far away in Bornheim, near Bonn. Wish you loads of breadloving people!

    Hurray to selfmade bread!
